  • Uncle Loki/Nephew Thor
  • Thor doesn’t have a clue why, but Loki’s been on house arrest his entire life. Odin never visits his brother and didn’t want Thor to as a child, but Frigga often spends time with him.
  • Thor does something terribly foolish (doesn’t matter what) as an adolescent. He’s terrified of what his father’s punishment will be and of Frigga’s disappointment. He ends up telling Loki. Loki being the Great Uncle™ that he is fixes everything for Thor. Thus begins a fantastically manipulative relationship.
  • “I am loath to say anything cruel about your father in your company, Nephew.”
  • Minutes later… “Father tells me nothing,” Thor pouts. Loki offers Thor a sympathetic frown. “How irresponsible. You are Odin’s heir. One day you will be King of Asgard.”
  • For years Loki subtly poisons Thor against Odin. Frigga softens Thor, helps him see his father’s perspective when Loki’s gotten Thor all worked up against him.
  • Loki definitely doesn’t come to care about Thor. Not at all. What a ridiculous notion.
  • Thor becomes very possessive and defensive of his uncle, as one does when one wants to sleep with their uncle.
  • Thor ends up having sex with his uncle. Falling in love with his uncle. They both, obviously, keep this part of their relationship quiet.
  • Odin’s concerned that Thor’s first act as king will be to unbind Loki’s magic, to set Loki free. In the interest of protecting the Realm, Odin tells Thor the absolute truth about Loki’s crimes.
  • Loki’s been on house arrest because he aided a woman named Hela when she attempted to overthrow Odin.
  • Why did Loki do this? Because Loki is Hela’s mother.
  • What does the absolute truth not include? Any mention of who Hela’s father was. Any mention of the fact that Hela’s still alive, she’s just been cast down to Niflheim.
  • Then plot happens… Loki does end up protecting Thor, ultimately, though he balances that with being a protective mother who help his kids destroy Asgard, and he uses him to help bring about Ragnarok (he totally asks for Surtur’s skull as a token of Thor’s affection/betrothal piece or whatever).
  • Also, before the Ragnarok shit goes down, Thor does marry Loki.
  • This AU 100% ends with Thor and Loki being married, but in a really awkward place where Thor’s realized he has more step-children (also half-siblings) than he knew about, and also they might all be felons.
  • It’s a very hopeful ending that promotes couples counseling when there’s still love and a lot of lust, but maybe not so much trust. Maybe no trust. Negative 1000 trust.

Just… the family tree. The family tree. That’s one jacked up family tree and I love it. Twisty Uncle Loki’s great.

Inspired by Spirk fics where Spock explains the history of T'hy'la and its history is gay and full of warriors accidentally spontaneously bonding.
  • There’s ancient seiðr in Jotunheim. In all the Nine Realms, really. Ancient customs where two parties spill and share each others blood, and this binds them together in a magical marriage of body and soul.
  • Asgard and Jotunheim have a tumultuous diplomatic relationship. They’re often on the brink of war with one another. Young, brash Thor’s not so interested in peace. When Loki sneaks into Asgard and relieves them of the Casket, Thor pursues him. He catches up to him using the portals between the Realms, and they end up engaging in combat against one another in one of Jotunheim’s caves. They spill and share blood, and Loki’s spells have attracted lingering seiðr, and suddenly they can’t land blows against one another. Or, they can, sort of. Loki stabs Thor, but the same wound appears on him. When he heals it, it heals on Thor, too.
  • Queue some really awkward negotiations and Thor talking to his mom about how much this sucks and Loki’s brothers finding it all hysterical.
  • Thor’s only convinced that he’s really married to Loki, not just stuck with some freaky bond, when he realizes he can’t rise to the occasion with other people.
  • Loki tries to undo the seiðr linking them, and Thor learns that he’s trying and offers to help. And maybe they start to find they work well together and kind of enjoy the company of each other, but they obviously still need to end this, right? Even if they suddenly find themselves imagining what it would be like to have sex. That’s just the magic… probably. Anyway, they make things worse in the process by enabling an evil sorcerer in accumulating a great deal of power, and Thor and Loki have to work together to protect both Asgard and Jotunheim from them.

Warning: This post contains dangerous levels of cheese.
  • It’s during Reconstruction (after the American Civil War). Thor’s the son and younger child of one of the wealthiest plantation owners in the South. His father, Odin, and sister, Hela, are… terrible people. They’re not happy about the South losing. He’s very lonely in his own home, and feels the weight of all his father’s expectations, and the bitterness of his elder sister.
  • Loki’s one act in a “Ten-in-One” sideshow. He’s a “freak”, due to the prominent, twisting veins covering his body, and a magician.
  • Because I really like the idea of Loki with the Guardians, and also now Thor with them (Rocket especially), they’re some of the other members of the sideshow.
  • Thor attends the carnival the sideshow’s playing at with a date, and he’s captivated by Loki. Can’t imagine why people would call him a freak. He looks beautiful, and his performance is fantastic. He returns two days later, pays to watch the show again, and pays to see the extra, not-child-friendly act after the main performance. Loki notices him there for the second time and winks at him.
  • Thor sticks around after the carnival’s winding down for the night, and he and Loki have their first face-to-face conversation. Thor finds Loki even more captivating after talking to him. He’s intelligent and mischievous. A breath of fresh air in Thor’s stressful existence. The carnivals only their for a couple weeks, but Thor spends a lot of time there.
  • At first Loki’s just trying to milk this cash cow for all it’s worth. It’s not like spending time with Thor’s a terrible hardship, and he keeps paying to see shows. Of course, Thor’s earnest admiration starts to win Loki over. Loki’s not used to people finding him interesting for more than a handful of tricks and his “deformity”. He eventually says something that makes him cringe a few days before they’ll be leaving. He says, “You’ll have to come see us in Georgia.” Thor kisses him that night.
  • Loki lies to Thor about when exactly they’re leaving and leaves without saying goodbye.
  • Shit goes down at home, Hela takes Thor’s eye out, and Thor chases after Loki’s sideshow, now a bit of “freak” himself. He ends up become part of an act and has a series of strange/freaky glass eyes. And Thor and Loki have lots of very illegal sex.

Loki’s family moves to a new town halfway through Loki’s senior year in high school. He gets a part time job at this little bookstore he falls in love with, which is owned by a woman named Frigga. She’s wonderful and motherly, which Loki appreciates since his own mother passed away.

Frigga frequently shows Loki pictures of her son Thor, a college student, and Loki ends up falling a bit in love with the golden young man with the killer smile and stunning blue eyes (which, yes, was 100% what Frigga intended). There are almost no pictures of Thor on his own. He’s always surrounded by friends, especially beautiful women. He’s clearly athletic and popular.

Thor’s semester at college ends, and he comes back home. Frigga sets him to work in her shop, conveniently giving him numerous shifts with Loki. Thor’s every bit as friendly as the photos suggested, and he even appreciates Loki’s sharp wit and cutting remarks. One thing leads to another, and they end up dating. Loki's sure Thor has more experience than him, but when Loki brings up sex, Thor reveals he’s a virgin.

*evil laugh* I’m an angst factory!

Soulmates where one or both are members of the nobility can’t always marry. Nobles have to make a certain match, after all. It would be a terrible waste to marry a lady to a blacksmith’s apprentice.

Thor’s a prince. He’s known his whole life that his soulmate most likely won’t be anything more than a friend or, if they’re willing, a mistress. So he’s never bothered to have the spell preformed to find his soulmate (this is like a thread of fate soulmate AU–no visible markings… at least, not on Asgardians). Neither has Loki, but that’s mostly because of a complete lack of interest. He has his brother and mother. Why would he need anyone else?

Thor’s arranged to be married to an Asgardian lady whose father is very powerful and respected among the warriors, and who has some of the largest holdings on Asgard (besides Odin’s own). She’s sweet and gentle and everything an Asgardian lady should be. Thor isn’t particularly interested in her. She’s pretty, which he likes, but they share no interests.

The plot of Thor happens, only there are minor tweaks. First, Thor’s coronation is a wedding, too. Loki did intend to interrupt the wedding, but the Frost Giants’ timing wasn’t perfect. Thor’s married. He gets down on his knees before Odin to accept his throne, and then Odin finally sees it. Second, Jane and Thor don’t get together. They’re attracted to each other, but Thor’s honest with her about being married. Jane’s not about to be with a guy who’s married to someone else, even if it’s just a political arrangement. Third, Loki doesn’t fall. He’s put under heavy surveillance because he’s deemed a threat to himself.

And life just sort of… goes on. Thor’s miserable. He wishes he could be anywhere but in the palace with his wife and broken family. He especially wishes he could be on Midgard, since he enjoyed himself there. He found purpose and friendships there that weren’t weighed down by expectations. He misses Loki, too. Loki refuses to talk to him. He refuses to talk to anyone, really, though he’s forced to interact with the healers Odin sends him.

Thor decides he needs to know who his soulmate is. He needs something, anything to make him happy. So he has the spell performed. Meanwhile, Loki forces himself into his Jotun form. Frost Giants, it turns out, do have marks for their soulmates. Very clear marks across the top of their chest. They both discover their soulmate was closer than they ever thought…

I’ll leave the rest up to your imagination (but I like to imagine there’s a happy ending in there for everyone, even Thor’s soon to be ex-wife, who Hogun spends time with while Thor’s neglecting her in his depressed state).
foundlingmother: (Default)
Human AU where Loki ropes Thor into helping him move into his new apartment, and he purposefully pisses Thor off with vague instructions on where heavy pieces of furniture are supposed to be until Thor bends him over the arm of the couch and fucks him. But it ends before the smut because I can’t write smut.

I like doing callback lines, so Loki would probably say “That’s not supposed to go in there,” early in the fic, and would make a dumb joke of repeating it when Thor’s about to fuck him.
foundlingmother: (Default)
Victorian AU where Loki’s the abused youngest son of Lord Laufey and Thor’s the estate’s arborist.

Loki sometimes will escape to the gardens and watch Thor work from the branches of a yew tree. When Thor knows Loki’s watching, he’s always very quite and professional, though not unfriendly. When he doesn’t know Loki’s watching, he’ll do strange things like speak to the saplings or the sky.

And when he speaks the saplings grow and the rain comes, because Thor’s a god cast down to Earth.

So, fantastical Victorian AU?

I know open doesn’t mean empty, but I’m associating those two words here.

WWI AU where Loki dies while Thor’s fighting in the trenches. He returns home. England’s a mess (obviously). Thor’s a mess. It takes him weeks to work up the courage to go visit Loki’s grave. When he does, he brings flowers.

He finds an open, empty grave.

Does it get made into a longer fic where the mystery is uncovered or does it just stop there? I don’t know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Post-Ragnarok. Thor sets their course for Earth. Loki, having just held Thor while he sobbed (because that’s what happened after “I’m here” in my head), knows he can’t leave yet, but he’s not going back to Earth. He calculates how many days he’s got until they’re near enough to Earth to make contact, and sets a plan during that time to first build Thor up and make his own expertise unnecessary (compiling books on magic, helping to structure a council that will support Thor, etc.), then tear himself down so that Thor doesn’t want him to stick around.

The plan doesn’t work out. Loki’s never been good at predicting emotional responses, especially his own. The dependence that Thor and him develop is unexpectedly deep and abiding.

Loki doesn’t know what to do. Every day they get closer to Earth. Every day another aspect of the plan gets delayed or altered due to unexpected developments. And he’s terrified. The closer they get to Earth, the closer they are to Thor abandoning him for others (the Avengers, Jane, etc.). To losing his freedom.

But does he talk about these fears with his brother-turned-lover? Why ever would Loki do that?
foundlingmother: (Default)
Diplomatic Marriage AU where Loki’s married to Thor to keep Helblindi (the new king after Laufey’s death) in line. Thor and Loki do not get along to begin with, but Loki seems obedient and quiet, if sullen, so Thor leaves him alone.

Whenever it rains–be that Thor’s fault or otherwise–Loki turns the storm into an icestorm, plunging Asgard into an inexplicable winter. No one knows it’s Loki. Crops are dying. Asgard doesn’t know how to handle such strange weather in the midst of summer.

Thor and Loki start to grow closer, but just as it seems the slow burn’s about to end, Thor finds out that the difficulties his realm has faced are all Loki’s doing.
foundlingmother: (Default)
Human AU. Loki’s estranged from the family, and he’s having a recurring dream of dark, murky waves crashing along the shoreline by the family’s beach house (because Odin’s a rich, white bastard who bought a beach house). He’s doing research or maybe he talks to someone, and he doesn’t really believe the stuff about his subconscious trying to reveal a hidden emotional desire, and that he’s unhappy.

And, because this feels sad (the endless part) I think I’d have it be interspersed with a flashback of Loki pining after Thor during one of the summers they’re at the beach house. Thor’s always gorgeous, but he doesn’t wear a shirt pretty much the whole summer. By the end of their trip, Loki’s managed to convince himself he’s obsessed with how Thor looks out of jealousy, and nothing else. Also, that he’s disgusting and worthless.

Just a lot of Loki angst.
foundlingmother: (Default)
Post-Ragnarok. Thor and Loki discover the only time they seem to be able to have a real conversation is in the dead of night, when the cabin’s dark (so they can’t see one another) and they’re both tired, but neither of them can sleep.

Just a series of night time chats leading up to… Dare I say it? Look away, delicate souls. Hand holding and cuddling and obsessively listening to heartbeats and breathing.

They’re a mess. There’s lots of crying, though they both pretend not to be crying a lot (Thor because he doesn't want Loki to be burdened with his tears, not because of any sort of pride like Loki).

It’s midnight, self-administered family therapy turned couples counseling.

Based on the image I'm using, Loki 100% "helps" Thor exercise by climbing on his back while he runs or does push-ups. Thor's response is always a half-joking, half-serious "fuck you, Loki". He knows it's bad for his back, but it's nice because he knows Loki's using it as an excuse to be clingy. A fucked up back's kind of worth it.

Thor enjoys surprising Loki with bear hugs in the school hallway. He grabs Loki from behind and lifts him. Loki starts squirming and kicking, but they can't match Thor's strength.

Loki smells like their very sweet, citrus shampoo.

Thor thinks Loki’s never seen any of his games, but Loki’s got a secret place they lurk and watch from.

If Loki gets pissed at someone, they know they could take them down themself, but it’s so much more fun to get Thor to do it (plus then Thor gets detention and Odin yells at him and that’s fun to watch). So they’ll make it look like the person they don’t like is bullying them, or they’ll actually goad the person into doing so, and they make sure Thor’s around to witness. After, when Thor’s in trouble, Loki relieves any guilt they might be feeling by being nice to Thor for the duration of his punishment (it never lasts very long because Thor’s always let off the hook early for good behavior).

Thor gets pissed if/when Loki doesn’t get the lead and/or the part they want in school plays (regardless of gender because Loki’s genderfluid and can crush any role). Loki found it mortifying when Thor chewed out the drama teacher the first time it happened.

If Thor spots Loki painting their nails, he’ll ask Loki to paint his just as an excuse to spend time together. Loki buys completely hideous colors to test Thor’s resolve. So far Thor’s won these mini battles.

Loki steals Thor’s varsity jacket, claiming it’s because they couldn’t find one of their own.

Valued traits in Asgardian culture are dedication, aggression, courage, pride, and honesty/bluntness. Traits that you’d usually associate with warriors/knights. It's a warrior culture.

Physical violence between warriors isn't an offense, it's exercise. Fighting and slaying enemy warriors is honorable. If you are the winner, that is. Otherwise, you will be condemned. It's proper to demand tribute from conquered peoples, so long as you extend to them your protection.

Put an Asgardian child against the strongest Midgardian (not enhanced by serums or suits of iron), and at most it’s a fair fight. Asgardians are built for battle. They’re a tough race. Any of them would lay down their lives in battle to defend the ones they love. Valhalla awaits!

There's no minimum drinking age on Asgard.

Long hair is a sign of status in Asgard. Shorn hair is a sign of servitude. Cutting a high-status person's hair that short is a means to humiliate them.

Allspeak works by manipulating what others hear. It's sort of an auditory illusion. People hear what they want to hear. Not only do the words come out in the first language (or most comfortable, perhaps?) of the listener, but the way the speakers lips appear to move adapts, too. Furthermore, if the speaker is speaking to two people whose first languages are English (say an American and an English person), certain word choices might differ, or the way they pronounce words, despite the fact that both will hear English. Hell, even people from different states within the United States would have this experience.
This idea’s sort of confirmed(?) by the wiki page.

Some Asgardians learn to speak other languages, if only for the challenge. “Deigning” to learn to speak other languages impresses and honors the people who speak that language. I headcanon that the Allspeak is an ability Asgardians can control (turn on and off at will). It’s a massive tactical advantage to be able to understand your foes, but prevent them from understanding you when you so desire.
