Summary: Loki doesn't die on Svartalfheim. A pity. He deserves death, and his cell no longer offers safety. Asgard clearly does not possess the strength to ward against Thanos.
There are other ways to stay safe. To protect Thor and Frigga, provided she recovers from her wounds. He could leave. He could take the Tesseract to someone the Mad Titan cannot match.
So Loki does.
